WWE Royal Rumble 2027 is set to take place soon, and the date has been announced for February. However, there has been a report revealing that the date could have been quite different from what has been announced, had things gone differently.
WWE Royal Rumble 2027 was almost postponed
Thanks for the submission!
Earlier this week, the official date and location for Royal Rumble was announced to be February 6 in Glendale. The weekend will also feature AAA Road to Rey de Reyes and SmackDown taking place as a double feature on February 5, as a big show in Glendale, Arizona.
“As part of Royal Rumble weekend in Glendale, Desert Diamond Arena will host a double event on Friday, Feb. 5, featuring both Friday Night SmackDown and AAA Road to Rey de Reyes.”
As per a report by WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, the original discussion for the event was actually quite different and might have featured it taking place two weeks later. The postponement of the date was because of the idea that more people would have eyes on it if it was happening around Super Bowl weekend. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest events for the USA, and the idea was that, had the show been set for that weekend, then in the lead-up to that week, ESPN would be advertising all of its programming far more than usual, leading to more exposure.
The company decided against it for two reasons, with the idea that despite the potential advertising being significant, pushing the WWE event would force changes to the company’s calendar of planned events.
The other idea was that Phoenix, Arizona, was already hosting the 2027 NBA All-Star Weekend from February 19 to 21st, and therefore it was easier to stick with February 5 for the Royal Rumble and not make changes.
