Casper Ruud vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo preview
Casper Ruud will face off against Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the first round of the 2026 Paris Masters on Monday.
Ruud will be looking to end his recent dip in form with a strong start at the Paris Masters. The Norwegian arrives after a second-round exit at the Swiss Indoors Basel, where he lost to Nuno Borges 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 after opening his campaign with a win over Dominic Stricker. He also reached the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters, defeating Learner Tien and Bu Yunchaokete before losing to Rafael Jodar. Ruud will be keen to make a deeper run in Paris as he looks to finish the season strongly.
Cerundolo, meanwhile, had to come through qualifying to secure his place in the main draw. The Argentine defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic 7-6(5), 6-3 before edging Miomir Kecmanovic 6-4, 6-7(6), 7-6(6) in a demanding final qualifying round. He also competed in Basel last week, where he made it to the main draw after beating Zachary Svajda and Daniel Altmaier. Cerundolo has shown that he can challenge higher-ranked opponents, but the indoor hard-court conditions in Paris will present a different test from his preferred clay surface.

Casper Ruud vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo prediction
Ruud’s stronger hard-court game should give him an advantage in this matchup. The Norwegian has shown that he can compete effectively on the surface, reaching the Shanghai quarterfinals and winning his opening match in Basel. His heavy forehand, ability to dictate cross-court exchanges and stronger serve should be particularly useful on the indoor courts in Paris. He also won their most recent meeting convincingly in Montreal.
Cerundolo, however, arrives with confidence after coming through two qualifying rounds in Paris. He defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic in straight sets before edging Miomir Kecmanovic in a deciding-set tiebreak. The Argentine leads their overall head-to-head 2-1, but both victories came on clay. His left-handed groundstrokes and ability to construct longer rallies could trouble Ruud, although the faster indoor conditions leave him with less time to establish those exchanges.
Ruud’s greater experience and more reliable serving on hard courts should make the difference. Cerundolo has the ability to keep the match competitive, but the Norwegian’s heavier groundstrokes and attacking quality give him a clear advantage on this surface.
Pick: Ruud to win in straight sets.
