The Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback situation got serious after Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley got injured in the first half against the Buffalo Bills.
Jackson exited on Baltimore’s opening offensive play with a thumb injury, and backup Tyler Huntley later left with a foot injury. Rookie Joe Fagnano had to step in.

Lamar Jackson returned after missing three games with a high ankle sprain. However, his comeback lasted just one play after his throwing hand collided with Bills pass rusher Greg Rousseau while attempting a pass to Zay Flowers. Baltimore subsequently ruled him out.
Huntley initially replaced Jackson but also left after hurting his foot in the second quarter. Fagnano, Baltimore’s emergency third quarterback, then took over.
Pavia is a familiar name for Baltimore. The Ravens signed him as an undrafted free agent in April after he finished second in the 2025 Heisman Trophy voting at Vanderbilt. He recorded 39 total touchdowns, including 29 passing scores, and eight interceptions during his final college season.
However, Baltimore waived Pavia on July 23 to make room for veteran offensive lineman Ethan Pocic. He is no longer on the team’s roster.
Pavia has since expressed interest in joining the UFL, with negotiations reportedly underway in October.
Doctor raises concerns over Lamar Jackson’s hand Injury
Dr. David Chao of Sports Injury Central examined Lamar Jackson’s injury and raised concerns about a possible fracture or dislocation. He shared his assessment on X and Sports Injury Central’s website.
“As he jogs off, there was an obvious deformity there,” Chao observed. He explained that Jackson was immediately taken for further examination, adding, “The athletic trainer doctor put a towel over it to cover it, straight to the locker room, likely for X-rays.”
Chao identified a possible fracture or dislocation as the primary concern.
“The question is, is there a fracture? Is there a dislocation? Is there a little bit of both?”
He also warned that Jackson could miss multiple games.
“The bottom line is it is impossible to grip and spin a football and throw a football with a thumb injury like this,” Chao said. “They play Thursday. You might as well rule him out for that for sure, and likely more weeks to come depending on what the injury is.”
Jackson’s recovery timeline will depend on the examination results.
