England opener Emilio Gay has suffered a shoulder injury while batting for Durham in their One-Day Cup match with Middlesex.
Gay had been feeling his right shoulder but after playing an on-drive off Toby Roland-Jones, he called for the physio.
After a few minutes of treatment he left the field, retiring hurt on eight and his county have said that he will be assessed over the weekend.
Without a contract in The Hundred, the 26-year-old has played in five of Durham’s matches in this competition.
Gay has been named in an enlarged 16-man England squad for the first two Tests against Pakistan later this month.
The first match of the three-Test series begins at Headingley on 19 August.
