Steve Tandy has been on the lookout for coaches to add to his backroom team
Wales’ search for a new kicking coach is gathering pace, with Leicester Tigers assistant Alex Davies among the leading candidates to join Steve Tandy’s coaching team.
Tandy has been on the lookout for a permanent kicking coach after Leigh Halfpenny took on the role for the Nations Championship but has since gone to Cardiff.
Ospreys legend James Hook, along with Halfpenny have also been contenders for the role.

But 40-year-old Davies appears to be the frontrunner for the job.
Davies is currently the skills and kicking coach at English giants Leicester Tigers, and he has previously enjoyed stints with England Women, Rosslyn Park and the Netherlands.
As a player Davies played both scrum-half and outside-half for London Welsh, Bath and Rosslyn Park.
If he gets the job Davies will work with players like Dan Edwards, Sam Costelow and Jarrod Evans to improve their kicking game.
Tandy has quietly been adding to his backroom team; former Scotland international Peter Murchie started as defence coach this summer, while Paul James also joined as permanent scrum coach at the same time.
Back in April, the Welsh Rugby Union advertised three jobs that would complete Tandy’s coaching ticket.
Listings for a kicking coach, scrum coach and attacking skills coach were posted.
Cardiff assistant Jonny Goodridge has been mentioned as a potential contender for the attacking skills coach job.
Tandy will hope to have assembled his full coaching team before the Nations Championship resumes this autumn.
