GB News losses narrow to £8.9m as web visitors fall 63 per cent

GB News narrowed its losses in the seven months to the end of December 2025 as revenue rose 16 per cent, despite a 63 per cent fall in visitors to its websites and apps that the broadcaster attributed to artificial intelligence summaries of articles.

Accounts filed at Companies House on Monday show revenue of £17.4m for the period, a 16 per cent increase on the same seven months of 2024. Adjusted losses fell to £8.9m, from £12.1m.

The company has moved its financial year end to December from the end of May, which is why the latest accounts cover seven months. Filings at Companies House show GB News Limited shortened its accounting period from 31 May 2026 to 31 December 2025.

Over the same seven months, visitor numbers to GB News’s websites and apps fell 63 per cent to 7.5 million unique views. Page views were down 33 per cent to 68.5 million.

The news channel said the decline had been caused by the rise of artificial intelligence summaries of articles.

The figures come months after the Competition and Markets Authority imposed a new conduct requirement on Google search. The regulator said in June that, in a world first, publishers would have tools to prevent their content being used to power AI features in search, such as AI Overviews, and that Google must attribute publisher content with clear links in AI-generated results.

Sarah Cardell, chief executive of the CMA, said at the time: “With features like AI Overviews rapidly reshaping online search, it is crucial that content publishers, including news organisations, have appropriate bargaining power over how their content is used.”

Google has nine months to implement all the changes, according to the CMA’s announcement, which also requires the company to publish compliance reports every six months for the first year. Business Matters reported in June on the regulator’s order giving publishers an opt-out from AI search results.

GB News benefited from a rise in its share of television audiences. The channel claims to be the country’s biggest dedicated news channel, ahead of its rivals BBC News and Sky News.

GB News attracted an average weekly audience of 81,600 viewers in July, according to the latest Barb viewing figures. That compared with 73,500 for the BBC News channel and 68,900 for Sky News.

The Times reported in July that the news channel was cutting staff numbers, with as many as 90 jobs set to go. That would represent more than a third of its 260-strong headcount.

Angelos Frangopoulos, chief executive of GB News, said the channel would “continue to prioritise disciplined cost management and operational efficiency alongside continued revenue growth, with the objective of making further progress towards sustainable profitability”.

A spokesman for GB News said: “GB News is Britain’s number one news channel and is going from strength to strength. These results show our revenue is rising, our costs are falling and we are on track towards delivering sustainable profitability. Our audiences continue to grow strongly across television, radio and social media.”

GB News is owned by All Perspectives Ltd, whose backers include Sir Paul Marshall, the hedge fund manager and owner of The Spectator.
