Heathrow Airport has warned access to Terminals 2 and 3 is restricted because of flooding caused by a burst main underneath a ring road.

Passengers have been asked not to travel by road to Terminals 2 and 3 after access was blocked by a flood, Heathrow Airport said on Saturday morning.

The flooding was caused by a main leak beneath Inner Ring Road West, which continues to cause disruption in the central terminal area (CTA), which includes Terminals 2 and 3, as well as a number of other buildings, connected by a network of roads.

Passengers are being advised to travel by rail and Tube and to avoid travelling by road.

It is understood that there is no flooding within either terminal, and flights have not been disrupted.

The affected pipes are owned by Heathrow Airport which is in charge of the repairs.

An airport spokesperson said: “Our teams are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, we apologise for any disruption caused.

“The leak has been isolated and repairs are on-going.”

The disruption has hit passengers amid the school summer holidays.

Heathrow said 19 July was its busiest day of the year so far as many schools broke up for summer, with 267,000 passengers passing through.

The spokesperson added: “Flooding in the central terminal area has resulted in on-going road closures restricting access to Terminals 2 and 3.

“Passengers travelling to or from either of these terminals today must not travel by road.

“Passengers are strongly advised to use Heathrow Express, Elizabeth Line and Piccadilly Line rail services where possible.”

“Any passengers that must travel by car must use Park and Ride, head to Terminals 4 or 5 and take free rail services from there, or change at local rail stations.”

The airport has also advised people to allow extra time for their journey.

The airport was recently affected by disruption to railway services, after a water leak prompted the closure of a tunnel.
