Fans have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to hail Barcelona star Fermín López’s performance in the 6-1 win against Alavés in a La Liga clash.
Barcelona came into the game looking to get back to winning ways after their loss against Real Madrid last weekend. Hansi Flick had to use a makeshift backline for their clash against Alavés. Frenkie de Jong, who normally operates as a defensive midfielder, had to fill in at centre-back. Brian Fariñas made his Barcelona first-team debut at right-back after Xavi Espart picked up an injury against Los Blancos.
Thanks for the submission!
The Catalan giants took an early lead through star man Raphinha after a brilliant pass from Pedri found Fermín López, who passed the ball to the Brazilian forward to make it 1-0. Alavés fought back, creating multiple chances and testing the Blaugrana backline.
In the 23rd minute, Fermín doubled Barcelona’s lead as he smashed the ball into the far corner of the Alavés goal from a smart Lamine Yamal pass. Fermín turned creator for the Catalan club’s third as his through pass found Raphinha, who doubled his tally for the night. Yamal added a fourth from outside the box in first-half stoppage time.
Yamal scored his second of the night with a left-footed dink past the keeper following a well-timed run, with second-half substitute Gabriel Jesus setting him up with a disguised pass.
Anthony Gordon, who came on as a substitute for Yamal, scored the sixth as he got on the end of a Rodri through-ball and chipped it past the keeper. Former Real Madrid star Mariano Díaz scored a consolation goal for Alavés after a Rodri error, and the game ended 6-1.
Fans praised Fermín López as his performance in the first half alone had nearly sealed the fate of the game. He provided 2 assists and scored once in the game. One fan claimed the Barcelona midfielder is nearly unplayable when he’s in full flow:
A second fan echoed the sentiment and claimed López is the best player in his position when he’s on it:
A third fan claimed the midfielder doesn’t get the appreciation he deserves for his performances:
Some of the other reactions are as follows:
