Irish Open moved as tour confirms 2027 schedule

  • Published

The Irish Open will take place in early July next year as the DP World Tour announced its schedule for 2027.

The tournament, which was won by Shane Lowry at Doonbeg last week, has been moved to 1-4 July because of the Ryder Cup, which is scheduled for 17-19 September.

With the Ryder Cup’s slightly earlier date in September, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth will be played the week following the biennial contest between Europe and United States at Adare Manor in Ireland.

As a result, the French Open will move to 7-9 September.

The Irish Open was previously held in July before moving to September in 2023.

Next year, it will be played at the K Club before the Scottish Open and Open Championship, and will come at a key time in the European Ryder Cup qualifying process, which will conclude at the British Masters on 22 August.

“I’ll obviously be there, I’ll play,” McIlroy told BBC Sport NI when asked about the Irish Open’s new date during last week’s tournament.

“Field wise, we’ll see, I’m not sure. The Scottish Open will be the week after and a lot of guys are probably going to play that.

“But I get it. The Ryder Cup’s in Ireland next year and something had to give.”

The DP World Tour’s 2027 schedule – which features 42 tournaments in 24 countries – will also include three returning events with the Hong Kong Open, the Singapore Open and Open de Portugal.

The season begins this year at the Australian PGA Championship in Sydney on 26-29 November and will conclude with the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai on 11-14 November 2027.
