The San Francisco 49ers are looking for help at wide receiver after being hit hard by injuries, prompting them to explore potential additions before the trade deadline. Among the players they reportedly approached was Jauan Jennings, who spent the first five seasons of his career with the team before moving to the Minnesota Vikings.
According to FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer, the Niners had even worked out the terms of a possible trade but needed Jennings to approve a return to the franchise. The wide receiver ultimately declined the opportunity.
Thanks for the submission!
“The 49ers, who already traded for DeForest Buckner, also had a trade term worked out for Jauan Jennings,” Glazer said. “It was contingent upon him hopping on a FaceTime call with Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch and saying, ‘Yeah, I want to come back,’ but he didn’t.”

“He said, ‘Actually, no, I want to stay here in Minnesota.’ He likes what is going on in Minnesota.”

NFL fans quickly took to X to share their thoughts after learning that Jennings had rejected the opportunity to reunite with the 49ers.
“He’s been awful in Minnesota and was great in SF. Has to be something personal because career wise, this makes no sense,” one fan wrote.
“With the substation waiting… I’d want to stay too,” one said.
“He wants to stay healthy,” one added.
“Bros said i ain’t going back near that substation. lmao,” one fan said.
“Is he scared of the substation? lol,” one commented.
“He loves getting paid to do nothing,” another added.
The San Francisco 49ers drafted Jennings in the seventh round in 2020, and he went on to spend five years with the team. The former Tennessee wide receiver moved to Minnesota in May, signing a one-year contract that could earn him up to $13 million. He currently sits behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison in the Vikings’ receiving pecking order.
49ers still expected to pursue another receiver after Jauan Jennings rejects move
Despite seeing limited action with the Minnesota Vikings, Jauan Jennings has no interest in rejoining the San Francisco 49ers. He has recorded only four catches on eight targets in five games this season, but that has not changed his decision to remain in Minnesota.
San Francisco will now likely have to look elsewhere as the team continues its search for additional help at wide receiver.
The injury situation in the 49ers’ receiving corps has made that need increasingly urgent. Three players at the position are on injured reserve, with Ricky Pearsall ruled out for the remainder of the season and rookie De’Zhaun Stribling unavailable since Week 1. Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel Sr. were also absent for the Week 7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, which handed San Francisco its first defeat of the season.
With a 6-1 record, the Niners remain firmly in contention and will want to strengthen their roster ahead of what promises to be a demanding NFC playoff race. However, their available options in the trade market remain uncertain.
