Newcastle Jets are off to Japan on Tuesday as they face off with Kyoto Sanga for matchday three in the AFC Champions League, aiming to get their first point across the board. Qualifying for just the second time in the competition’s history, it’s been a tough return to the continental stage for the Australian side, whose last and only appearance came way back in the 2009 season.
The Jets went down 7-1 to Kashima Antlers on matchday one before losing 3-1 at home to Gamba Osaka in their next match, as the A-League side remain rooted at the bottom of the East Region standings without a point.
Thanks for the submission!
Kyoto Sanga, also competition debutants, lost on the opening day to DHFC as Victor Bobsin’s 78th-minute strike broke their resistance, but the Japanese outfit recovered to beat Ratchaburi in their next encounter.
Temma Matsuda scored with only two minutes of normal time remaining to hand the side their first Champions League win of the campaign.
With three points in two games, Sanga are in ninth place in the standings, just behind Kashiwa Reysol in the race for the knockout stages.

Kyoto Sanga vs Newcastle Jets Prediction
Newcastle Jets have never beaten a Japanese team before and, given their current struggles, we don’t see them changing that statistic in this clash. But luckily for them, Kyoto are stuck in a rut too. This match may end in a low-scoring stalemate.
