Manchester United have failed in their attempts to sign highly-rated midfielder Louis Page from Leicester City.

United’s interest in Page was first reported by BBC Sport in August.

However, the first sign of a problem was Page being named in Leicester’s starting line-up for their League One fixture against Plymouth on Tuesday.

It was then confirmed by sources the deal will not be concluded and Page will remain a Leicester player.

It is understood the Foxes wanted well in excess of £10m for the 18-year-old, who only made his first team debut in August 2025, but has already carved out an impressive reputation, making 25 appearances in total.

It was anticipated United were willing to loan Page straight back to Leicester, given they have already spent in excess of £150m on international midfielders this summer.

Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos have already made their debut, while Carlos Baleba – a £70m purchase from Brighton – will miss the next couple of weeks with a minor ankle issue.

While it transpires Page will not be arriving, it also seems certain 19-year-old full-back Harry Amass will not be leaving.

Amass spent most of pre-season as back-up left-back to Luke Shaw.

However, he has not been chosen in Michael Carrick’s squad for either Premier League game so far and it was expected he would take up one of the numerous offers to sign him on loan.

But United’s failure to sign an experienced left-back means Amass is set to stay, even though he will probably be Carrick’s third choice given Noussair Mazraoui replaced Shaw during Sunday’s 5-2 win against Ipswich.

The chances of the Old Trafford outfit signing a left-back were hampered by Joshua Zirkzee’s failure to find a new club.

After talks with one Serie A outfit, Fiorentina, failed to reach a successful conclusion over the weekend, Zirkzee’s hopes of being signed by Juventus were dashed when they opted to bring in Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade on loan instead.
