Fourth seed Maria Sakkari will take on qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Open 2026.
Sakkari commenced her campaign here with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Carol Young Suh Lee. She faced Maya Joint in the second round. Sakkari led by a break twice in the opening set but Joint ultimately staged a turnaround to snatch the set from her. She bagged the last four games of the set to claim the opener.
Sakkari regrouped and raced to a 3-0 lead in the second set. She maintained a tight leash on her lead this time to take the set. After being evenly matched at the onset of the third set, Sakkari pulled ahead as she swept the last four games of the match to complete a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 comeback win.
Sasnovich came through the qualifying rounds, and then beat Katie Volynets 6-3, 6-2 in the first round. She faced fifth seed Talia Gibson for a spot in the last eight. Sasnovich was off to a strong start and conceded only one game to capture the first set without a fuss.
While Sasnovich initially rallied from a break down in the second set, she couldn’t do the same twice, which cost her the set. She found herself on the backfoot in the third set but stopped Gibson from serving out the match at 5-4. She maintained her composure in the ensuing tie-break as well. She saved two match points in the tie-break and won five of the last six points to score a 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (7) win.
