Prodigal Comeback Loading: “I Will Be Returning” – Absent AEW Star Shares Update After Devastating Loss

This post was originally published on this site.

An AEW star who had been absent from the company’s programming for a few weeks is set to return after suffering a devastating loss on the other side of the world. The star in question is none other than Nick Wayne, the guy who beat Chris Jericho twice. The Prodigy had been absent since WrestleDream to compete in New Japan’s Super Jr. Tag League and appeared in a video package on last week’s Collision.

Following this year’s All In: London, Nick Wayne began a feud with Chris Jericho. The first match took place at the September 16 edition of Dynamite where the Ayatollah of Rock N’ Rolla picked up the win. After this, Nick Wayne went on to defeat Jericho on two different occasions including the Grandslam: edition of Collision and at the WrestleDream pay-per-view. After his win at WrestleDream, Wayne went away to Japan for more than a week for the Super Jr. Tag League.

He teamed up with KUSHIDA as the Time Splitters in the tournament. However, the duo lost to Unbound Co. on 31st October and are officially out of the tournament. Following the devastating loss, Wayne took to X to announce that he will be returning to AEW.

“Due to last night’s results, I was unable to advance to the finals. With this, I will be returning to AEW. Tonight’s Okayama event will be my final match of this series. Finally, one more time, let’s spend a fun time together with everyone. I’ll surely miss you all!,” he wrote. (translated from Japanese)

It will be interesting to see what is next for the Prodigy in All Elite Wrestling following his recent wins over Jericho.

Chris Jericho believes that Nick Wayne is a potential AEW World Champion

The Y2J is one of the most legendary names in the world of professional wrestling. He has held Championship gold across the globe and has also main-evented WrestleMania. Following his consecutive losses to Nick Wayne, Jericho claimed on TMZ Inside the Ring that the Prodigy has potential to be AEW World Champion.

“The old Nick Wayne that could lose to Chris Jericho, well, that’s not going to happen ever again. This necklace is gone, the old Nick Wayne is out, the new Nick Wayne is in. The new Nick Wayne that wears a suit, the Nick Wayne that can hold his own in a promo against Chris Jericho. The Nick Wayne that might have a chance to beat Chris Jericho, well don’t know yet. But, the point being it wasn’t about the necklace itself, it was like a totem of where that was signifying the end of this version and now we’re going into the next version, next phase of Nick Wayne, who has potential to be a world champion,” he said.

Nick Wayne is just 21 years old and definitely has a bright future ahead of him in Tony Khan’s promotion.
