Rangers have confirmed they have bought Venezuela striker Kevin Kelsy from Portland Timbers for an undisclosed fee and taken Algeria winger Badredine Bouanani on a season-long loan from Stuttgart.

Their double announcement – as the Scottish transfer window closed on Thursday – takes the total of summer additions to the Ibrox squad to 14.

The 22-year-old Kelsy, who has signed a four-year contract with the option of an additional year with the Scottish Premiership club, had joined Portland on a four-year deal when he was sold by Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2025.

Kelsy has made 16 appearances this season for Portland, scoring 10 goals and contributing three assists, for the side sitting 11th in the Western Conference and 17th overall in Major League Soccer.

Overall, the 6ft 4in (1.93m) left-footed striker has played 63 times, scored 19 goals and registered five assists, having helped Timbers finish eighth in the Western Conference and 17th overall last year.

Kelsy started his career with Mineros de Guayana before spells with Boston River in Uruguay then two title-winning seasons with Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, scoring nine goals in 37 appearances.

He made his first move to Major League Soccer with a loan spell at Cincinnati in April 2024, netting six times in 23 outings, before his switch to Timbers.

Kelsy has six international caps.

The 21-year-old Bouanani joined the Bundesliga club from Nice just over a year ago for a reported £13m.

However, he made only nine starts and 13 substitute appearances last season for the side who finished fourth in the German top flight and has not featured this season.

Bouanani was part of the Nice side thumped 4-1 by Philippe Clement’s Rangers in the Europa League two years ago and also started Stuttgart’s 1-0 defeat at home by Celtic in last season’s Europa League play-off, when the Scottish champions exited on aggregate.

He came through the youth ranks with Lille, the city of his birth before switching to Nice, from whom he had a loan spell with Lorient and played for France at youth level before switching to Algeria in 2023.
