A world record attempt will take place this week, with some big names involved
A former British and Irish Lion will attempt to break a world record for a rugby sevens match this week.
Ex-England second-row George Kruis will among the 48 people trying to play more than 24 hours of continuous sevens rugby on Friday to help raise awareness and money for the charity LooseHeadz. The challenge will take place at Sandbach RUFC in Cheshire.
The two matches – with men’s and women’s games taking place simultaneously – will kick off at midday on Friday.
They won’t end until after 12pm on Saturday.
The aim is to beat the current Guinness World Record that stands at 24 hours and 30 minutes.
That was set in 2017 in a men’s match. There’s no record currently for a women’s match.

Each match will feature two teams of up to 12 players, with rolling replacements throughout to keep the action going.
Both matches will also follow official sevens rugby laws.
Former British and Irish Lion Kruis, who won 45 caps for England, will be involved in the event, as will ex-England sevens captain Ollie Phillips.
During his playing days, Kruis won three European titles and four Premierships crowns for Saracens
That helped him earn a place on the 2017 Lions tour of New Zealand.
The second-row retired in 2022 to focus on his business career, co-founding the health and wellness brand fourfive with ex-Wales lock Dominic Day.
As well as being a former England captain, Philips was also once World Sevens Player of the Year.
Further appearances from legends and current players have been teased throughout the event.
There’s a target of £100,000, with around £52,000 having been raised so far.
LooseHeadz is a rugby mental health charity that is looking to help tackle the stigma around mental health.
