Tens of thousands of Wales Six Nations tickets still unsold as WRU issue statement

Wales will host three home games in this year’s tournament as they welcome France, Scotland and Italy to the Principality Stadium

Tens of thousands of tickets remain unsold for Wales’ home Six Nations matches, just over three weeks away from the start of the tournament.

The Welsh Rugby Union says it has sold over 120,000 tickets for this year’s three matches at the 72,500-capacity Principality Stadium, with Wales hosting France, Scotland and Italy in Cardiff over the course of the competition. According to the WRU’s official online ticket office, there are over 72,000 tickets still available to purchase across the three fixtures.

However, the union says it has seen spending behaviour change in recent years, with tickets being bought nearer to matchdays, and is now encouraging fans to “act quickly to avoid the rush” as the competition approaches.

After opening their tournament campaign against England at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, Wales’ first home game of the competition will see them host France at the Principality Stadium on February 15.

As of Wednesday afternoon, however, there are still around 25,000 tickets for that match available to purchase through the WRU’s official online ticket office.

More tickets have been sold for Wales’ showdown with Scotland in Cardiff six days later, but there are still around 12,000 available to purchase at time of publication.

The number of available-to-buy tickets rises to around 34,000 for Wales’ final game of the tournament against Italy on March 14, a fixture that has become a wooden spoon decider in recent times.

Although thousands more tickets are expected to be sold, the stadium looks set to be some way short of its 72,5000 capacity during this year’s competition.

When Wales last hosted three home Six Nations games in 2024, they kicked off their campaign against Scotland in front of a sell-out crowd, while the attendance for their matches against France and Italy were 71,242 and 72,121 respectively.

Despite there still being tens of thousands of tickets available, the WRU says it was “encouraged” by the turnout for the recent autumn internationals, with 230,000 supporters attending across the four matches. However, that included the crowd of just 50,000 that watched Wales fall to a 73-0 defeat to South Africa at the end of the campaign.

In a statement, the WRU’s Chief Financial and Operating Officer, Gavin Marshall, said: “Tickets are still available and we are encouraged by the 230,000 supporters who attended the recent Quilter Nations Series across four matches this autumn and are grateful for the fantastic support from the Welsh fans for the team.

“Of that total, we were delighted to see a record number of younger fans, children, and students; engaging with this next generation is vital for the continued growth of the sport.

“We have already surpassed 120,000 tickets sold for the 2026 Guinness Six Nations, with Wales taking on France, Scotland and Italy at Principality Stadium in the flagship competition kicking off next month,” he added.

“Look out for exciting news in coming weeks for further details on the entertainment planned for the Six Nations. We encourage supporters to act now to secure the best priced seats for our home clashes in Cardiff. Tickets are available directly from a rugby club near you or contact: wru.wales/tickets.”

On the fact that tens of thousands of tickets remain unsold, Mr Marshall continued: “We’ve seen over the last few years that spending behaviour has changed and tickets are being bought later on and nearer and nearer to matchday.
