Today’s Minute Cryptic Answer Hints (November 3, 2026)

The November 3, 2026 puzzle is “Single title track from album: a demo I sell exclusively” (12), and it follows the classic cryptic setup of one definition plus one wordplay recipe.

The definition is “Single title”, sitting right at the front. The answer is a word that fits that description, so it helps to think about what kind of title could be called single.

The wordplay is everything after that, and it is built on one hidden instruction inside a long stretch of ordinary-looking words.

Which wordplay indicators should you look for?

Two pieces work together in this clue:

  • Hidden word indicator: “track from” tells the solver that the answer forms part of some neighboring fodder, hiding within its letters. A track can be part of a larger work, and that is the image the setter is using.
  • Fodder: “album: a demo I sell exclusively” supplies the letters, and some of them will spell out the answer.

A useful nudge is to ignore the punctuation and the spaces and run the fodder together as one long string of letters. Then look for a twelve-letter word sitting in the middle of it, in the exact order the letters appear.

After putting all the pieces together, today’s November 3, 2026 Minute Cryptic answer is shown above.

Here is how the clue works:

  • Definition: “Single title” points to the answer, since it is a title.
  • Indicator: “track from” is the hidden word indicator.
  • Fodder: “album: a demo I sell exclusively” supplies the letters.
  • Result: Run the fodder together as ALBUMADEMOISELLEXCLUSIVELY. Pulling out the letters from the M at the end of ALBUM through the first E of EXCLUSIVELY gives M, A, D, E, M, O, I, S, E, L, L, E, which spells MADEMOISELLE and matches the count of 12.

“Single title track from album” sounds like a music news line, so solvers can waste time on song and album answers when “single title” is just the definition. Spotting that “track from” is an instruction to look for something hiding in the letters is what opens the whole thing up.

How to Play Minute Cryptic

Minute Cryptic puzzles consist of one cryptic clue per day. There are always two main components to solve: A definition (a literal or humorous synonym for the answer) and Wordplay (instructions to construct the answer letter by letter). These are hidden within a sentence that sounds like a normal sentence, called the surface.

Anatomy of a Cryptic Clue

Every clue is built from three core elements.

  • The definition: A direct, though often tricky or double-meaning, synonym for the answer. It usually sits at the very beginning or the very end of the clue.
  • The wordplay: The instructions for building the answer, made of fodder and indicators. Fodder is the raw letters or words you work with, and an indicator is a clue word signaling how to change them. Words like “mix” or “broken” suggest an anagram, and words like “back” or “returns” suggest a reversal.
  • The surface: A misleading, smooth-reading sentence that distracts from the real wordplay.

Common Cryptic Techniques

Minute Cryptic teaches the key patterns through structured courses called Letterplay and Wordplay.

  • Anagrams: The letters of a word or phrase are scrambled. Look for chaos or movement words like playfully, knocked, bananas, or damaged.
  • Hidden words: The answer is spelled out consecutively inside surrounding words. Look for indicators like hiding, sample, bit of, or within. Today’s “track from” belongs here.
  • Reversals: A word or set of letters is read backwards. Look for direction words like back, returns, or, in down clues, up.
  • Containers and insertions: One word goes inside another. Look for words like around, holds, embraces, or in.
  • Double definitions: The whole clue is two different definitions for the same answer, with no wordplay at all.

How to Practice and Improve

Don’t worry about getting into the habit of solving the daily random clue yet. Take your time to learn the concepts from the free modules (Letterplay and Wordplay) on the Minute Cryptic Guide Page, or from the Introductory Courses video. Try to get into the habit of identifying the end of the definition and the start of the wordplay in clues. And always make sure your answer is the correct number of letters!

Anyone who plays daily word games regularly might also add Connections and the NYT Mini Crossword to the rotation alongside Minute Cryptic.
