Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend won the women’s doubles at the US Open to complete a historic career doubles Grand Slam as a pairing.

The top seeds came from a set down to beat American wildcards Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery 5-7 6-0 6-2 in New York.

Their triumph at Flushing Meadows means they have now won all four Grand Slam titles, adding to their triumphs at Wimbledon in 2024, the Australian Open in 2025 and this year’s French Open.

It was Czech player Siniakova’s 12th Grand Slam doubles title in total, while she also became the first player to complete the career Slam with two different partners.

The 30-year-old achieved it previously with fellow Czech Barbora Krejcikova.

For American Townsend, who is also 30, victory marks her first US Open doubles title after suffering defeat in the final last year alongside Siniakova to Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe.

Siniakova and Townsend had not dropped a set before the final, but lost the opener when the Czech player double-faulted three times in the final game.

They hit back in the second set, winning 23 of 27 points after the first game to force a decider.

Siniakova and Townsend remained in control from there, consolidating an early break in the third set to go 3-1 up before safely seeing out the rest of the match.

Siniakova is one of only eight women to have won at least 12 Grand Slam doubles titles in the Open era.

Should Siniakova end this season as the world number one in doubles, it will mark the sixth time she has achieved the feat, surpassing Martina Navratilova for the most year-end top-ranked finishes in WTA history.
