Steve Tandy will trim down his squad for the Nations Championship today, while also informing players who will feature against Fiji on Saturday
Wales head coach Steve Tandy is set to trim down his summer squad ahead of the Nations Championship today as the national team build up to their opening fixture against Fiji.
Tandy named an extended 48-man squad at the start of the summer, with the intention of cutting that down following their uncapped warm-up against the Barbarians. Having seen off the Baa-Baas 33-31 in London on the weekend, Tandy confirmed afterwards that he will bring the numbers down to around 32 to 34.
With Keiron Assiratti, Liam Belcher and Louie Hennessey having all dropped out of the squad through injury, that means there’s at least another 11 players who will play no further part in the summer.
Tandy is set to announce his Nations Championship squad later today, with Wales holding one of their usual scheduled press conferences shortly after.
The Wales coach, given the usual nature of a Test week, will likely tell his players today the team for Saturday’s clash with Fiji in Cardiff.
That match at the Cardiff City Stadium kicks off Wales’ Nations Championship campaign, with the Flying Fijians perhaps offering Wales their best hope of victory ahead of trips to Argentina and South Africa.
