“We don’t want smoke with Swifties”, “It’s that serious?” – NBA Fans Stunned As Knicks Defend Taylor Swift After Tyler Kolek’s ‘Fake Fan’ Jab

NBA fans were stunned online after the New York Knicks released a statement defending singer-songwriter Taylor Swift following Tyler Kolek‘s comments.

In a video with Miles McBride, Kolek accused Taylor of being a “fake fan.” New York usually attracts celebrity fans, including Ben Stiller, Spike Lee and Tracy Morgan. In Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals, however, the artist behind “Cruel Summer” attended the game.

Despite her attendance, Kolek had a bold claim about her NBA loyalty.

“At the Knicks games, I would say it’s very performative,” Kolek said. “They just want to be seen at the game. They’re not necessarily fans. Maybe Taylor Swift. … I don’t know if I’ve seen her at any other games.”

Following Kolek’s remarks, a team representative released a statement about Taylor’s fandom.

“Taylor Swift has been a Knicks fan for many years, has a long history with Madison Square Garden, and we are incredibly appreciative of her support of the organization.”

NBA fans reacted to the team’s decision to defend the GRAMMY winner instead of their own player.

“We don’t want smoke with the Swifties,” a fan said.

“It’s that serious?” another fan commented.

“Kolek getting sent to the Pelicans,” one fan joked.

More fans commented on the Knicks’ statement.

“Knowing Dolan, they might actually get rid of him 😭😭” someone commented.

“Kolek gonna get himself traded. Lord have mercy,” a comment read.

“NBA Twitter is realizing that Swifties don’t mess around. We don’t play when it comes to Taylor,” one fan commented.

Knicks Superfan Ben Stiller Gave a Shoutout to Dalton Knecht

The Knicks signed Dalton Knecht to a two-way contract on Oct. 23, after being waived by the LA Lakers. On Wednesday, Knecht made his debut for New York against the Chicago Bulls. He helped the team with a 135-105 win, with 10 points and seven rebounds on 50.0% shooting from beyond the arc.

Following his first game for his new team, celebrity fan Ben Stiller gave him a shoutout.

“Dalton Knecht has entered the conversation,” he posted on X.

The famed comedian has been a loyal fan of the NBA team for over 50 years. Stiller has attended several games over the years and offered his consistent support of the team’s Finals run last year. After the Knicks won the championship, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” star confirmed that he’s directing and producing a documentary in partnership with HBO and A24.

Stiller confirmed it during his appearance on the “Roommates Show,” the podcast hosted by Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.
