The former Ospreys coach has come under fire following his half-time remarks on S4C’s coverage
Lyn Jones has come under fire after saying the Dragons were ‘playing like women’ in their Challenge Cup defeat to Benetton.
Filo Tiatia’s side were heavily beaten in Italy, going down 74-21 at Stadio Monigo. The 11-try defeat leaves the Men of Gwent needing to beat Newcastle Red Bulls in Newport next Friday.
The chastening hammering in Italy saw the Dragons come back down to earth with a bang, following a upturn in form that saw them win three out of four matches.
Jones – who previously coached the Dragons as well as the Ospreys – was particularly scathing about the Dragons’ performance at half-time during S4C’s coverage, saying they had performed “appallingly”.
However, the former Wales flanker then said they were “playing like women” – before quickly saying sorry.
That prompted presenter Catrin Heledd to try correct Jones, offering up the alternative comparison of playing like children, while former Wales women’s international Sioned Harries was just left laughing as they quickly tried to move on.
The comment picked up some criticism from viewers on social media.
One X user tweeted: “Can Lyn Dinosaur Jones please be escorted away and never invited back following his “playing like Women comment”. Pathetic comment.”
Another said: “That’s the end of Lyn Jones’ TV appearances.”
One said: “Lyn Jones really not covering himself in glory today on S4C.”
