BBC Sport’s FPL expert Gianni Buttice looks at some of the biggest dilemmas facing Fantasy Premier League managers heading into gameweek three.

If you do not own Erling Haaland (£15.5m), using a chip to bring him in is much simpler than spending several transfers to fit in the game’s most expensive player.

A Wildcard lets you move quickly on trending players, improve team value, and invest heavily in two sides you may not have much exposure to in Manchester City and Chelsea, who face Coventry and Hull at home over the next fortnight.

The Free Hit chip also has an upside, allowing you to avoid the Arsenal versus Chelsea fixture and consider players from Brighton, Newcastle, and Brentford.

If you are not using a Wildcard or Free Hit, choosing Haaland as your Triple Captain looks a strong option, which I am likely to run with.

Coventry have been among the most defensively vulnerable sides and Manchester City impressed last time out, while their Norway striker has had a clear midweek before Saturday’s game at Etihad Stadium.

City also host Ipswich in gameweek seven and Hull in gameweek 16, but both fixtures fall during heavy Champions League congestion.

Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) faces Coventry at Old Trafford in gameweek 14, although that also comes in a run of three matches in seven days.

Rayan Cherki (£7.7m) is this week’s most-bought player, with two price rises already. After his impressive last outing, he is the standout midfield pick.

Phil Foden (£7.0m) is also worth considering, with stronger underlying expected data than Cherki over the first two games, while Elliot Anderson (£6.4m) looks a solid long-term hold.

Cherki and Foden may become minutes risks later in the season, especially after the deadline-day signing of Enzo Fernández (£6.9m). In defence, Josko Gvardiol (£5.6m) is the best option.

The half-time substitution of Christos Tzolis against Aston Villa was a concern for owners.

We saw in gameweek one how dangerous he can be and many expect him to be first choice this season, albeit subject to early substitutions.

He’s far from a hard sell though and arguably a comfortable hold at £6.5m.

Manchester United captain Fernandes is close to the ideal FPL asset: talismanic, takes set-pieces, rarely injured or substituted, and a reliable scorer.

He is a stronger option than Cole Palmer (£9.6m) or Bukayo Saka (£9.5m), but he is also significantly more expensive.

Because captaincy is so important, look ahead. if you are unlikely to captain Fernandes soon, but would give the armband to Palmer or Saka, the switch is worth considering.

It’s also worth noting there are plenty of other good assets at Chelsea and Arsenal, whereas Fernandes is in a league of his own at United.

It is easy to be tempted by a new signing, but I would wait at least a week before buying anyone who has only just joined.

Most are unlikely to start this weekend and may be limited to cameo appearances. If they impress on debut, you can react then.

To name a few, I will be closely monitoring Daniel Munoz (£5.4m), Bradley Barcola (£8.0m), Jack Grealish (£6.5m), and the impact Fernandez will have on the minutes of other Manchester City midfielders.
