Wrexham forward Nathan Broadhead will miss the upcoming international camp with a thigh injury.

The 28-year-old was included in Craig Bellamy’s 28-man squad for Wales’ Nations League A fixtures with Portugal, Norway and the Denmark double header.

But he will now withdraw from the squad due to an issue sustained in training, meaning he will also miss Wrexham’s Championship fixture with Southampton on Saturday (15:00 BST).

“Broady has strained his thigh in training, which is a shame because he was training well,” said Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson.

“That’s going to keep him out for the weekend but there’s nothing new from that.”

When asked if the injury would see Broadhead miss the upcoming Wales camp, Parkinson responded: “Yes.”

The 20-cap international started Wrexham’s opening three Championship matches of the season but did not feature in his side’s fixtures with Millwall, Swansea City, Burnley and West Ham United.

Wales travel to face Portugal on 24 September in the first of four fixtures in this newly extended international break.

They then travel to Copenhagen to take on a Denmark before World Cup quarter-finalists Norway visit Cardiff (1 October) and then a return game with the Danes (4 October).

Wrexham boss Parkinson confirmed Josh Windass and Ben Sheaf are both in contention to feature against the Saints at the Racecourse Ground this weekend.

Last season’s top scorer Windass was withdrawn at half-time of his side’s 1-1 draw with Burnley in north Wales on 8 September and was an unused substitute for the 6-0 loss to West Ham United three days later.

Sheaf is yet to feature for Wrexham this season due to an ongoing knee issue, but both the midfielder and forward Windass will be available to feature against Tonda Eckert’s side.

“Josh is fine, he’s had a really good week and I’m pleased with him this week,” Parkinson said.

“I felt he needed a good week on the training ground and he’s been firing.

“Ben’s also had a good week on the training ground, which he needed also.”
