Ospreys CEO Lance Bradley quits in major announcement

The CEO has stepped back from Welsh rugby following a turbulent two-and-a-half years

Ospreys chief executive Lance Bradley has stepped down from his role.

Bradley, who previously spent four years in charge at Gloucester, took over at the Ospreys in January 2024. He leaves just over two years later, following a turbulent season for the Ospreys off the field.

The last year has seen the Ospreys’ existence under threat, with the Welsh Rugby Union intent on cutting a region and moving down to three teams.

Ospreys have appeared to be in the crosshairs more than most, with owners Y11 going close to signing a deal to buy Cardiff – only for that to collapse late on.

Bradley himself has come under fire for his dealings with Swansea Council following that period of uncertainty for the club, with a public row breaking out following a tense meeting between Bradley, Welsh Rugby Union chief executive Abi Tierney and Swansea Council leader Rob Stewart about the future of rugby in Swansea.

Bradley leaves his post with the Ospreys set to move into St Helen’s next season.

Work on the Swansea ground has already begun ahead of their first game there in October.

“There’s a saying in rugby that you always want to leave the shirt in a better place than you found it. Despite an incredibly challenging last 12 months, I feel I’ve done that with Ospreys,” said Bradley.

“When I joined in 2024 we had no stadium, our finances were in poor shape and although we had a loyal hardcore of fans, their numbers were dwindling.

“Next season we move into our own stadium at St Helen’s, our finances are looking better than ever, and season ticket sales are already by far the best they’ve been for more than a decade.

“Furthermore, the most important part of any rugby club, its playing side, is developing nicely – building on our status as Wales’ most successful Region.

“I’d like to thank everyone at and associated with Ospreys for their friendship and support. I wish the very best for the club in the future.”
