Former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has emerged as the favourite to replace Michael Carrick as the new Manchester United head coach, according to talkSPORT.

The Red Devils have had a horrendous start to the season with just two wins in 11 games. They are winless in the last seven matches, and Carrick could be sacked if the club don’t beat Bournemouth at home on Sunday.

Ahead of this, there is speculation that United have started the hunt for a replacement, and reports cite that Howe has emerged as the likely candidate to take over at the helm if Carrick were to be dismissed soon.

Howe is eager to return to management after leaving Newcastle United mutually over the summer after he was left displeased by the transfer activity and the sale of key players such as Bruno Guimaraes.

The 48-year-old is keen on proving his credentials at another elite Premier League outfit and sees United at the perfect club to build his reputation to another level.
