On Wednesday, October 28, Alex Eala will face off against Talia Gibson at the Pan Pacific Open as she fights for a spot in the final eight of the tournament. The duo will be in action after 5:00 PM local time on Centre Court for their round of 16 encounter.
After enjoying an incredible 2026 season, Eala has experienced a slump in recent tournaments. The Filipino star kicked off her Asian swing with back-to-back opening round exits at the Singapore Open and Wuhan Open. The 21-year-old then headed to Ningbo Open, where she won her first round match against Diane Parry, before falling short against Diana Shnaider in the next round. In Tokyo, Eala seems to be getting back to her winning ways, having clinched a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mika Stojsavljevic in her round of 32.
On the other hand, Gibson kicked off her time at the Pan Pacific Open with a battle against compatriot Daria Kasatkina. The 22-year-old outdid the veteran star 6-0, 7-5 for a strong start to her time at the WTA 500. Before this, Gibson was seen in action at the Japan Women’s Open, where she defeated Harriet Dart and Sinja Kraus to make it to the quarterfinal.

Eala and Gibson’s round of 16 battle at the Pan Pacific Open should be an intriguing affair for spectators. With Eala showing signs of a return to her top form, the odds will be heavily tipped in favour of the World No. 19.
