AI Discoverability, Page types, and more (September 2026)

This post was originally published on this site.

We’ve got 5 updates this month, from a brand-new AI Discoverability category in Site Audit to Page types in Site Explorer, and more.

Let’s dive in.

Site Audit

AI Discoverability issues

AI Discoverability is a new issue category in Site Audit. It checks whether AI crawlers like ChatGPT and Claude can reach, read, and cite your pages. If they can’t, your content won’t appear in AI-generated answers regardless of its quality.

The first batch of issues covers:

  • Pages blocked from AI bots in robots.txt
  • Pages too slow or heavy for AI crawlers
  • Inconsistent AI bot policies
  • Similar AI-generated content
  • Pages requiring JavaScript rendering (most AI bots can’t execute it)

More features coming soon: an AI Discoverability Score widget, a dedicated report, structured data recommendations, stale content detection, and integrations with Bot Analytics, Web Analytics, and Brand Radar.

Site Explorer

Organic pages by type widget

The new Organic pages by type widget in the Site Explorer Overview breaks down which page types drive traffic, not just how many pages a site has. Run it on a competitor and you can see at a glance whether their traffic comes from blog posts, tools, landing pages, or something else.

You can expand any top-level type to go deeper, and click a type to jump directly to those pages in the Top pages report.

Keywords Explorer

Semantic filters

Semantic filters is a new filter in the Keywords Explorer, that matches keywords by meaning instead of exact text. If you’re researching brands containing common words like “On” (the running shoe company), a normal search returns thousands of unrelated keywords. Add “running shoes” as a semantic filter and you get results like “on cloud running shoes,” where “On” is clearly the brand.

This cuts down on manual filtering and keeps your keyword lists cleaner from the start.

Bot Analytics

New log source integrations

Bot Analytics now connects directly to Vercel, Amazon CloudFront, and Fastly. Previously, getting log data from these platforms required extra setup. Now you can link them under Project settings, then Bot Analytics, and start seeing how search engines and AI crawlers move through your site.

API

Doubled unit limits

API and MCP unit limits have doubled on every plan. As more users pull Ahrefs data into AI assistants and automated workflows via MCP or the API, the old limits were becoming a bottleneck.

New limits:

  • Lite: 100K to 200K
  • Standard: 400K to 800K
  • Advanced: 1M to 2M
  • Enterprise: 2M to 4M

New APIv3 endpoints

Several new endpoints shipped alongside the limit increase.

  1. A public list of the top 1 million domains by Domain Rating is now available, useful for prospecting and benchmarking.
  2. A new Content Helper Topics API scores how well a page covers the core topics of top-ranking pages, so you can audit content coverage at scale.
  3. New additions for managing projects and Brand Radar prompts.

Full details are in the changelog.

That’s all for this month. Check out our full changelog for the rest of the smaller updates, or leave any feature requests on our Canny board. Enjoy!
