Scotland men maintained their unbeaten start at the European Curling Championships with a comfortable 7-3 win against Germany.

However, the women’s rink sustained their first defeat in Ostrava in the Czech Republic, going down 10-2 to Sweden.

After Germany scored three in the fifth end to take a 3-2 lead, Grant Hardie’s rink hit straight back with four in the next to set them on their way to victory, adding to triumphs over Netherlands and Belgium so far as they top the standings.

In the women’s competition, Fay Henderson’s rink showed a bit of resistance with a single at the fifth to narrow Sweden’s lead to two, but the Swedes then picked up a double and a four over the next two ends.

The Scots had opened with a 12-3 victory over Denmark followed by a 7-4 defeat of Turkey, and continue their campaign at 17:30 GMT on Thursday against Estonia.

Hardie’s rink are in action at 08:30 on Friday morning against Austria.
