Marina Shafir has been on a roll in All Elite Wrestling. Last week, she made it clear that she wants the AEW Women’s World Championship. Shafir even had a rugged encounter with the current champion, Mercedes Mone. The two stars are now on a collision course, and Tony Khan is likely to put the AEW Women’s World Championship on the line in their upcoming battle.
This week on Fright Night Dynamite, Mone went on to slap Shafir multiple times in the ring. The Death Rider has been smoldering the embers of resentment toward The CEO since then. Therefore, it is now more important than ever for Marina’s character to beat the former WWE star to become the new champion. If it happens, it can change the landscape of AEW for good.
In this article, let’s take a look at four reasons why Marina Shafir should dethrone Mercedes Mone for the AEW Women’s World Championship:
#4. Massive fan support for Marina Shafir
Marina Shafir has been receiving massive fan support for the past month. Fans have been enjoying her ruthless and aggressive side in the ring. Besides, people are also enjoying her raw promo work in the Jacksonville-based promotion. At PAC’s memorial show last month, Shafir had a babyface turn to honor the legacy of her friend. Since then, fans have connected with this babyface version of Shafir.
For many, she is the main character in AEW’s women’s division. Therefore, Tony Khan should not waste all this momentum without any meaningful moment for The Death Rider. At this point, if she becomes the new AEW Women’s World Champion, no one would complain. Likely, people would cheer, which might solidify Shafir in the main event scene of All Elite Wrestling for good.
#3. Fresh start to the women’s division
Marina Shafir as the AEW Women’s World Champion is something that not many fans have imagined until a few weeks ago. Therefore, her title reign could be something very new for the fans all across the world. It could mark the beginning of a fresh start for the women’s division in the Jacksonville-based promotion. There are several matches Shafir could become a part of in this new potential landscape.
The Death Rider is yet to explore the full potential of her babyface character in the company. The AEW Women’s World Championship could help her flex out these layers in the gimmick. In that case, she could be an incredible matchup for stars like Thekla, Kris Statlander, and Willow Nightingale. Shafir could remain a strong babyface champion, something that AEW needs for the past year.
#2. Surprise for the fans
AEW product has been giving the best entertainment to fans all across the world. However, for many, things have become quite predictable. Mercedes Mone captured the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In in London in August. It was a title win after many failed attempts. Therefore, fans believe that The CEO will not drop her title anytime soon in the company.
If Tony Khan puts the title on Marina Shafir, it would be a major unpredictable decision in the company. It would give fans an idea that anything can happen in the Jacksonville-based promotion at any point in time. Not only that, it would be a surprise for people tuning in to watch The CEO take down Shafir. Besides, it would reinvigorate fans’ interest in the women’s division of All Elite Wrestling.
#1. Mercedes Mone is good at chasing the title
Mercedes Mone is one of the top stars signed with All Elite Wrestling. She is the main attraction of the women’s division in the company. However, since she became the AEW Women’s World Champion, she has not been actively participating in the programming. Many fans have felt that her storylines have been underwhelming since she became the world champion.
The CEO is incredible at chasing the title. Fans enjoyed her storyline when she was the one after the world championship. She had something to root for, which is missing now that she has become the champion herself. AEW cannot make her main female star become uninteresting. Therefore, it would be better to take the title off of the former WWE star and give it to Marina Shafir.
This way, Mercedes Mone can once again return to her chase in the Jacksonville-based promotion. A loss against a rising star like Marina Shafir would give her character a motivation to re-establish herself at the top of the company. This would give her a shot at redemption. Her first world championship win was as a heel. A loss to Shafir could change her character to a babyface.
A babyface Mone winning the AEW Women’s World Championship has the potential to be a legendary moment in the history of All Elite Wrestling.
