Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has said that Arsenal winger Noni Madueke did not deserve a red card following his headbutt incident on Alexis Mac Allister.

The Reds suffered a 1-0 Premier League defeat to the Gunners at Anfield earlier today. Kai Havertz‘s early goal made the difference as Arsenal won at the stadium for the first time since 2012.

In the back end of the game, Madueke was involved in an incident with Mac Allister where both made contact with their heads. The latter dropped to the floor instantly, which looked like play-acting.

After the loss, Iraola clarified that Madueke made no clear movement towards Mac Allister and it did not look like a red card.

He said: “I’ve just seen one replay. I think a red card has to be more clear movement. It didn’t look like a clear red card, no.”

With the loss, Liverpool remain fifth in the table with 15 points, but have now fallen nine points behind Arsenal for the top spot.
