Paul heads into the 2026 Paris Masters after a solid run at the Vienna Open, where he defeated Andrey Rublev 7-5, 6-2 in the opening round and Luciano Darderi 6-1, 6-1 before losing to Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 7-6(2) in the quarterfinals. The American has shown encouraging form on indoor hard courts and will be looking to build on his recent performances as the 12th seed in Paris.

Paul has shown better form heading into the Paris Masters after reaching the Vienna quarterfinals. He defeated Andrey Rublev and Luciano Darderi before losing to Carlos Alcaraz. His ability to absorb pace, redirect shots and take time away from opponents should suit the indoor hard courts in Paris.
Rune also showed encouraging signs at the Swiss Indoors Basel, beating Quentin Halys and Hubert Hurkacz in three-set matches before losing to eventual champion Valentin Vacherot. The Dane is still working his way back after an Achilles injury layoff, and although his aggressive baseline game remains dangerous, he has yet to regain complete consistency.
Rune could trouble Paul if he serves well and controls the shorter rallies, but the American’s recent match rhythm and greater consistency give him the advantage. Paul has looked more settled during the indoor hard-court swing and should be able to exploit Rune’s occasional lapses.
