Although GTA 6 has gained ridiculous amounts of hype, a new survey has shown that a proportion of fans would be willing to give up their pets for a period of time to get the game a week earlier. While the results are impressive, the responses are widely seen to be hypothetical.
Here’s what the poll found, who carried it out, and why some fans are willing to go this far for the wait.
What the GTA 6 survey found: Pets, pre-orders, and early access
The data comes from a poll of about 1,300 American gamers conducted by Unwind Media. Around 7% of those polled said they would give up their pet for a month to play GTA 6 a week early. Among those who have already pre-ordered the game, that figure rose to 13%.
The poll shows how far some fans would go for early access. That is concerning, though perhaps not surprising given the hype around the game. These are survey answers, so none of it means people are actually handing over their pets.
This highlights how far some fans will go to get early access. Whilst the results are concerning, they may not be surprising given the hype around the game. However, these are just survey results and do not mean that people are actually giving up their pets.
Pets were not the only thing fans were willing to sacrifice. The survey also asked about everyday habits, and the answers were just as telling:
- Alcohol: 53% of fans who drink said they would give it up for a month.
- Social media: 42% would give it up.
- Fast food: 41% would go without it.
- Phone: 16% would give up their phone outside work for a month.
There is a bit of irony in the results. GTA VI itself features detailed in-game animal interactions, letting players pet, praise, or scold dogs they meet in the world of Leonida.
What is the reason behind this GTA 6 hype?
The reason behind the exaggerated answers is the unprecedented anticipation. GTA 5 launched back in 2013, so fans have spent over a decade waiting for a return to Vice City. The range of activities players can enjoy together in GTA VI adds to that interest.
GTA 6 arrives on November 19, 2026, on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S.
