The Kansas City Chiefs have built one of the NFL’s most successful kingdoms since 2015, winning three Super Bowls and five AFC titles while stacking 10 consecutive double-digit playoff seasons in that run, which was powered by a roster packed with star talent. However, several players who have worn the team’s jersey have also faced legal trouble.
The outcomes have varied, and allegations should not be confused with proven wrongdoing. Some players denied the claims against them, while others accepted plea agreements or faced punishment under the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Here are the 10 most controversial members of the Chiefs during Brett Veach’s time with the organization.
Thanks for the submission!
Veach came to Kansas City as a pro and college personnel analyst in 2013 before being promoted to co-director of player personnel in 2015 and ascending to general manager in 2017.

Former Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 2026 after spending more than a year out of the NFL. In early 2025, 16 massage therapists reportedly accused him of inappropriate conduct during sessions between 2012 and 2016. Tucker denied the allegations.
Following an investigation, the NFL suspended him for 10 games in 2025 for violating its personal conduct policy. The Ravens released him that May, and he served his suspension as a free agent. In October 2026, Tucker returned to the league by signing with the Chiefs’ practice squad.

Kareem Hunt, a third-round pick of the Chiefs, led the NFL in rushing as a rookie in 2017, finishing with 1,327 yards. However, his time in Kansas City ended in November 2018 after video surfaced showing him pushing and kicking a woman during an altercation at a Cleveland hotel.
The Chiefs released him, saying he had not been truthful about the incident during internal discussions. The NFL later suspended him for eight games for violating its personal conduct policy. He served the ban at the start of the 2019 season. After spending five seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Hunt returned to Kansas City in September 2024.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy, a first-round pick in 2024 by the Chiefs, was arrested in Texas on a domestic assault charge in March 2025. Worthy was coming off a strong rookie season in which he led the Chiefs’ receivers with 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns.
His attorneys denied the allegations and said he would cooperate with authorities. Within a day of his arrest, the Williamson County District Attorney’s office declined to pursue the case at that time after speaking with witnesses, pending further investigation. Worthy was released from jail and did not face prosecution in the case at that stage.

Defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs joined the Kansas City Chiefs in January 2024 after playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions. However, his time with Kansas City ended that June following two arrests in Alabama. On May 30 of that year, Buggs turned himself in after being charged with two counts of second-degree animal cruelty involving two neglected dogs.
His agent denied the allegations and said Buggs did not own the animals. On June 16, Buggs was arrested again on charges of domestic violence and burglary. The Chiefs released him on June 24 following the two incidents. He received a 10-game NFL suspension for violating the NFL Personal Conduct Policy.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice, chosen by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 draft, has faced multiple legal issues since his rookie season.
In March 2024, he was involved in a high-speed crash in Dallas and later pleaded guilty to two felony charges related to the incident. He received five years of probation and 30 days in jail, along with a six-game NFL suspension in 2025. In February 2026, his former girlfriend filed a civil lawsuit accusing him of repeated physical abuse. The NFL closed its investigation in April without issuing further discipline, citing insufficient evidence of a policy violation.

He faced charges of domestic battery and property damage, with the latter later upgraded to a felony. Ross initially pleaded not guilty before reaching a diversion agreement with prosecutors in November, ending the criminal case without a conviction.
The NFL later suspended him for six games for violating its personal conduct policy. Since he had already missed five games on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, he served the remaining suspension before being reinstated to Kansas City’s roster in December 2023.

He faced a misdemeanor charge of criminal damage to property after an argument with the mother of his son. His representatives said no one was hurt and that Gay broke a vacuum during the dispute.
He agreed to a diversion program in June to resolve the case. In September, the NFL suspended him for four games for violating its personal conduct policy. Gay returned later that season and helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII in February 2023.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Tyreek Hill in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft despite his legal history. In 2015, Hill pleaded guilty to domestic assault and battery by strangulation involving his pregnant girlfriend. He received three years of probation and was ordered to attend counseling.
In 2019, authorities investigated allegations of child abuse after his young son suffered injuries, including a broken arm. Prosecutors declined to file charges because they could not determine who caused the injuries. After its own investigation, the NFL said it could not establish a policy violation and did not suspend Hill.
10. Frank Clark
The Kansas City Chiefs acquired defensive end Frank Clark from Seattle in April 2019 and signed him to a five-year, $105.5 million contract. Before entering the NFL, Clark faced legal trouble while playing at Michigan.
In November 2014, he was arrested in Ohio following an alleged altercation with his girlfriend at a hotel. Michigan dismissed him from the team shortly afterward. In April 2015, Clark reached a plea deal that reduced the domestic violence charge to disorderly conduct, while the assault charge was dropped. He later helped Kansas City win two Super Bowls.
