Virat Kohli steered India to a five-wicket victory

India began the five-match ODI series against New Zealand with a five-wicket win in Auckland on Wednesday, November 4. They bowled the Kiwis out for 185 in 40.2 overs but were eventually set a revised target of 143 from 32 overs due to rain.

Virat Kohli showcased his class in a run chase once again. The veteran smashed a brilliant half-century that helped India chase down the target in just 22.4 overs. He made 74 runs off just 51 balls with 13 fours and a six at a strike rate of 145.1. It was his 80th ODI fifty, as he continued his stellar form this year.

So far in 2026, Kohli has scored 626 runs from 10 matches at an average of 69.55 and a strike rate of 120.61, with two hundreds and four half-centuries. He also extended his impressive record against New Zealand. Kohli now has 1971 runs against the Kiwis from 37 games at an average of 57.97, with seven hundreds and 11 half-centuries to his name. India will expect the veteran to carry his form throughout the remainder of the series.
