DC United and New York City FC draw the curtain on their 2026 MLS regular season campaign when they lock horns at Audi Field on Saturday. Both sides have endured an underwhelming season, failing to secure playoff qualification, but they will be aiming to finish on a positive note.

A disappointing late-season collapse saw DC United leave empty-handed yet again last Saturday when they fell to a 3-0 defeat against Columbus Crew at the Lower.com Field.

Thanks for the submission!

Rene Weiler’s men have lost each of their last five games, conceding 13 and scoring three since a 2-1 victory over New York Red Bulls on October 15, a run which killed off hopes of securing post-season football.

DC United have lost 14 MLS matches heading into this weekend’s finale, while claiming seven wins and 12 draws to collect 33 points and sit 14th in the Eastern Conference table, only above last-placed CF Montreal.

Meanwhile, New York City’s dreams of securing playoff qualification came to a disappointing end last weekend when they were held to a 1-1 draw by CF Montreal after conceding a gut-wrenching 91st-minute equalizer.

Before that, Pascal Jansen’s men snapped their run of six consecutive games without a win on October 29, when they edged out Atlanta United 2-1 at Citi Field courtesy of second-half goals from Nicholas Fernandez and Benie Traore.

New York City have picked up nine wins and 12 draws from their 33 MLS games so far to collect 39 points and sit 11th in the East, four points adrift of the coveted top-nine places.

DC United vs New York City FC Head-To-Head and Key Numbers

  • With 12 wins from the last 26 meetings between the sides, New York City FC boast a superior record in the history of this fixture.
  • DC United have picked up nine wins in that time, while the spoils have been shared on five occasions.
  • New York City have failed to win seven of their last eight MLS away games, losing three and claiming four draws since the start of August.
  • With 39 goals scored, DC United hold the second-poorest attack in the Eastern Conference, with only rock-bottom CF Montreal netting fewer (37).

DC United vs New York City FC Prediction

With little riding on this weekend’s matchup, DC United and New York City will be playing for pride, having missed out on playoff qualification.

Despite their painful result against Montreal last time out, New York City are clearly the more in-form side, and we are backing them to heap more misery on the out-of-sorts hosts.

Prediction: DC United 1-2 New York City FC
