Angel Reese showed love to Keisha Lance Bottoms after she won the Georgia governor’s race and became the first Black female governor in U.S. history. On Tuesday, the Dream star shared a post reporting Lance Bottoms’ win on her Instagram.
Reese congratulated Lance Bottoms by mentioning her Instagram handle in her story and adding a party face emoji next to it. The former Mayor of Atlanta is also the first Democrat elected governor in Georgia in more than 25 years.
Just like Lance Bottoms, Reese also etched her name in history books as the first woman to bag a major win. In early October, Reese became the first player in Atlanta Dream history to win a Defensive Player of the Year award.
She was a defensive force throughout the regular season, averaging 1.8 steals and 0.7 blocks per game and posting a defensive rating of 99.3. In addition to winning the major award, the Dream star also earned a spot on the All-WNBA Second Team.
The Dream star also broke the record for most rebounds grabbed in the WNBA Finals by finishing the series with 90 rebounds, breaking Sylvia Fowles’ record. The Dream, however, lost Game 7, 68-63, to the Valkyries on Saturday.
“The most fun I’ve had with a group”: Angel Reese shares her thoughts on first season with the Dream
Angel Reese’s first season with the Atlanta Dream was a big success. She won major individual accolades and reached the WNBA Finals. After the Dream lost the Finals, Reese shared her thoughts on her debut season in Atlanta.
“This is the most fun I’ve had with a group. It’s the most competitive team I’ve been part of,” she said. “And just because we didn’t win today doesn’t mean that we won’t be champions in the future.”
Later, she spoke about the improvement coach Karl Smesko has brought to the Dream squad.
“When individually you get better in the offseason, you get better collectively, and you can see that Karl puts a lot of work in,” she said. “I’m sure he’s going to see all of us this offseason, and I’m honestly looking forward to another year under Karl and his development and his system.”
The Dream were undefeated in the playoffs before playing in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals. They swept the Washington Mystics in the first round and the New York Liberty in the second round.
