Arsenal have made the decision to sign former Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer.

The Frenchman spent several seasons with the Whites and was once linked with a move to Manchester United.

However, he has largely regressed over the past few years and did not make a single appearance for Leeds last term.

His contract expired at the end of June and Arsenal have now agreed personal terms to land the 26-year-old on a Bosman deal.

Meslier is expected to be the Gunners’ third-choice goalkeeper behind David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga next term.

Arrizabalaga has been linked with a move away from the Gunners this summer, with Italian and Spanish clubs keen.

The Spaniard has a release clause worth Â£5m in his contract, and would be free to leave if the clause were to be triggered.

Inter seem the likely candidates to pursue a deal. They are eyeing a replacement after releasing Yann Sommer.
