Cardiff’s URC play-off hopes suffer blow as Glasgow ease to comfortable win

Cardiff saw their United Rugby Championship play-off hopes suffer a setback as Glasgow Warriors eased to a comfortable 40-17 victory at Scotstoun.

Tries from Jack Dempsey and Kyle Steyn set Glasgow on their way, before Josh Adams pulled a try back for the visitors.

However, Johnny Matthews then restored the 14-point lead for the hosts.

Adams was then forced off with a knock at half-time in what was shaping to be a difficult evening for Cardiff.

Matthews completed his brace by going over early in the second half, before Danny Southworth responded with a second try of the the night for the visitors.

However, Glasgow restored their dominance with a fifth score from Patrick Schickerling and another converted score from Kyle Rowe.

Cardiff threatened to snatch the consolation of a bonus point after running over a third try through Jacob Beetham, but ultimately left it too late to earn another score.

The Blue and Blacks now face a crucial clash with the Stormers at the Arms Park next Friday night.
