AEW veteran Jeff Jarrett recently reached a deeply personal milestone.
Today marked the ninth anniversary of Jeff Jarrett’s sobriety. The WWE Hall of Famer had openly shared his struggles with alcoholism in the three-part season seven premiere of “Dark Side of the Ring” in July. Double J has remained sober for almost a decade and took to his Instagram to post a photo to celebrate it. Jarrett wrote:
“10/25/2017 – 10/25/2026.”
After making this huge change in his life back in 2017, Jeff Jarrett returned to WWE in 2018, making his first appearance as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match. He stayed with the company until 2021, with his tenure culminating in an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. Following that, Jarrett joined rival promotion AEW in 2022 and served as an occasional wrestler and host of PPV pre-shows while continuing to remain a strong part of the wrestling business through other ventures.
Jeff Jarrett revealed why he stopped wrestling for AEW
Despite being signed by AEW, Jeff Jarrett hasn’t wrestled a match for the company in more than a year. During an interview with Ariel Helwani, the former WWE Intercontinental Champion said that he was focused on one role in All Elite Wrestling, i.e., hosting Zero Hour shows before pay-per-views. He also said he wasn’t part of the creative department or talent relations, but simply a roster talent. However, Jarrett also noted that he will wrestle when All Elite Wrestling asks him to.
“Well, I do Zero Hour. But hey, we talked about in this interview where I had to put my cap on and make a decision… So I’m very comfortable. I’m not in the creative department. I’m not in talent relations in AEW. I’m a talent. So when I’m called into Zero Hour to be an analyst, I do that. When I’m called to wrestle, I will wrestle. Yeah, I’m just an on-screen talent, whether a wrestler or not. Nothing behind the scenes.”
As Jeff Jarrett continues to navigate his role in the wrestling world, it remains to be seen when he will return to the ring, whether as an in-ring competitor or an onscreen talent.
