Connor McDavid gives Tristan Jarry his flowers after 24-save shutout in 4-0 win over Flames – “He was really, really solid”

Tristan Jarry carried a .860 save percentage into Wednesday’s Battle of Alberta, the latest dip in a rough stint in Edmonton. Acquired from Pittsburgh last December for Stuart Skinner, he went 9-6-2 with a 3.86 GAA and an .858 SV% and lost the net to Connor Ingram last year. With Devon Levi and Frederik Andersen out, Jarry has been carrying the load for the Oilers.

Last night, Mathieu Joseph scored 7:26 into the first off a Connor McDavid feed, Mattias Ekholm made it 2-0 at 4:52 of the second, and Kasperi Kapanen’s power-play redirect 55 seconds into the third was followed 21 seconds later by Alex Formenton’s finish from the slot. Jarry stopped all 24 shots and helped Edmonton improve to 9-2-2 while the Flames’ four-game win streak ended.

Connor McDavid had two assists to push his season-opening point streak to 13 games and his NHL-best total to 36 points, then made a point of giving Tristan Jarry his flowers for the 24-save shutout.

“I thought he played great,” said McDavid postgame. “He made some big saves, especially early in the game and in the second period there. He was really, really solid.”

When asked about the Oilers’ three goaltending options making the most of their opportunities, Connor McDavid said:

“Yeah, that’s what you want. It’s kind of next man up everywhere, and obviously in net, it’s a critical position, and we got three capable guys, and you know we believe in all three of them. So doesn’t matter who’s in there. We know they’re going to give us a chance to win, and Jarry certainly did that tonight.”

It was Tristan Jarry’s first shutout of the season, the 24th of his career and 14th among active goalies, and it moved his record to 3-1-2. Devin Cooley left after the first period with a lower-body injury, and Dustin Wolf made 20 saves in relief for the Flames.

“I think any time you can blank the board like that, it also gives credit to the team in front,” Jarry said. “I think they did a great job, they kept everything to the outside and they made it easy for me.”

Connor McDavid gives his honest thoughts on Evan Bouchard being snubbed of winning Norris Trophy last season

Connor McDavid went to bat for teammate Evan Bouchard, telling Amazon Prime before puck drop that the Oilers’ No. 1 defenceman should have won the Norris Trophy last season.

“He shouldn’t have been a finalist last year; he should have won,” said McDavid.

Evan Bouchard led all NHL defencemen with 95 points (21 goals, 74 assists) and a plus-25 rating in 2025-26, but finished fourth in voting. Rasmus Dahlin, Cale Makar and Zach Werenski were the finalists, and Werenski won.

Edmonton heads east for a back-to-back against the Islanders and Rangers this weekend.
