“Did take a lot of punches though” – Jake Paul calls out Canelo Alvarez after latter’s win over Christian Mbilli

This post was originally published on this site.

Jake Paul spent Saturday night watching Canelo Alvarez in action. ‘The Problem Child’ has chased Canelo for three years for a fight, then posted about it within hours.

“Out of the ring for 13 months but still the same old Canelo. Respect,” Paul wrote on X. “Did take a lot of punches though. We will dance my friend, we will dance.”

Canelo had just beaten Christian Mbilli by unanimous decision in Riyadh to reclaim the WBC super middleweight title, 13 months after Terence Crawford took his undisputed championship. The cards read 115-112, 116-111 and 117-110.

The line about the punches has something behind it. Mbilli, 31, was busier early and ripped combinations in the third and fifth, but Canelo’s counters were cleaner and a right uppercut in the seventh rocked him. Mbilli also lost a point in the eighth for punching behind the head.

Paul’s post is the latest move in a campaign stretching back years. In February 2025, after reports that a May 3 fight in Las Vegas had been agreed, Canelo signed a four-fight Riyadh Season deal and boxed William Scull instead.

The provocations kept coming this year. On September 30, Paul wrote:

“Canelo fighting on Halloween is perfect. He’s been dressed up as a guy who’s scared of me for three years.”

While Canelo has avoided any talks about fighting Paul, ‘The Problem Child‘ has already faced some big names, and his last fight didn’t go as planned.

Jake Paul’s last fight against Anthony Joshua

Jake Paul has not boxed since December 19, 2025, when Anthony Joshua stopped him in six rounds at the Kaseya Center in Miami. Paul went down twice in the fifth and twice more in the sixth, and referee Christopher Young waved it off at 1:31 of the round after a right hand broke his jaw in two places.

He had titanium plates fitted on both sides and teeth removed, then needed a second operation in February when the hardware loosened. Later in the year, he said that there was a chance his career was done.

Alvarez has one fight left on his Riyadh Season contract and wants it in February. Asked what came next, he said:

“I’m going to rest. I’m going to keep learning. I am going to keep working hard. I will take a couple of weeks off, and then I will be back.”
