Ilja Dragunov recently made his debut in All Elite Wrestling and is already being portrayed as a major star in the company. The former WWE United States Champion has set his eyes on another young star who won a title in the Stamford-based company. The star in question is none other than former NXT UK Tag Team Champion Oro.
Ilja departed the Stamford-based company earlier this year after spending nearly 7 years with them. During his last run with the company, he won the Men’s United States Championship and had several great matches on SmackDown. For weeks, fans had been speculating that the Mad Dragon will join All Elite Wrestling. The speculations proved to be true as Ilja Dragunov made his AEW at the WrestleDream pay-per-view.
He defeated Mike Bailey in his first match on Dynamite last week and confronted Tommaso Ciampa on this week’s show. While there are several names that the Unbeseigbar could have great matches with in AEW, he has set his sights on a young Nigerian star like Oro. The 31-year-old star signed with WWE in 2019 and spent nearly 6 years with the promotion before getting released last year.
The former NXT UK Tag Team Champion faced Sky Flight’s Scorpio Sky at the recent episode of Ring of Honor. Ilja Dragunov reposted a clip of the match on his official X account claiming that he has his eyes set on Oro.
“Eyes on him🔥🔥🔥,” he wrote.
It will be interesting to see Ilja face off against Oro in AEW in the near future.
Ilja Dragunov showcased interest in participating in the Continental Classic
The Continental Classic is arguably one of the most entertaining concepts in AEW. The tournament features amazing matches over the course of a year and has seen some top names win it in the recent years. Ever since Ilja Dragunov joined AEW, fans have been wanting to see him enter the tournament. The Mad Dragon showcased interest in the tournament while getting interviewed at AEW Advance.
“This tournament is representing strength, resilience, and I feel like the landscape of AEW is about to change. Why? Because I am here. So if you talk about strength, about grit, and especially resilience and intensity, and something memorable and emotional to happen? It would be second-hand embarrassing to take away that chance for the people, for me to maybe not be there. But I’m not the person to make the decision,” he said.
Ilja Dragunov would be a great choice to win this year’s Continental Classic and dethrone Jon Moxley.
