Australia’s Lucas Herbert swept to victory on the final day of the LIV UK event in Staffordshire.

The 30-year-old led throughout at the JCB Golf and Country Club in Rocester and carried a three-shot advantage over Bryson DeChambeau into the final round.

And the world number 69 rammed home his dominance on Sunday by firing the round of the day – a 10-under 62 – to finish on 30-under overall.

Herbert won by six strokes from England’s Tyrrell Hatton, who shot a 63, while American DeChambeau finished three shots further back in third.

It was Herbert’s second LIV victory of the year and his 30-under finish was the lowest in the tour’s five-year history.

Last week the Australian finished in a tie for sixth in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, four shots behind winner Ryan Fox.

“I just wanted to carry that into this week the best I could,” said Herbert.

“It was good to play like that today when I was being pushed by two of the best players in the world.”

Hatton, who won the previous LIV event in Andalucia, added: “I wanted to get off to a fast start, which is what I did, but unfortunately Lucas did as well.

“It would have been amazing to win in front of home fans, but I tried my best. Lucas was incredible this week.”
