Charting the Unknown, Crimson Desert’s massive first DLC, technically requires a lot of investment to begin in earnest. It serves as an epilogue to the personal storylines of Kliff, Damiane, and Oonkga, and takes place after the end of the main quest chain. That being said, almost all of its new game mechanics are accessible quite early on.
If you’re wondering where the various entry points in Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown DLC are, here’s what you need to know.
How to start Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown quests
The major story quests added by this Crimson Desert DLC will only trigger after you’ve beaten the main quest, as we said earlier. After your final long journey through the Abyss, complete the Epilogue quests, including Journey’s End.
After a few in-game hours, you can then find individual new quests for Kliff, Oonkga, and Damiane from the Journal menu. These are all individual quest chains you have to play with that specific character, and they are protagonists in their own right here. For spoiler reasons, we are not going into detail on what each character’s path involves, but if you’ve seen the trailer, there are hints in snippets.

How to start exploring the ocean in Crimson Desert DLC
Other than the personal quests of the three protagonists, there are also a lot of new Faction quests that take place across the Great Ocean of Pywel, and the various islands strewn across it. To get started with this, you need to build a ship in Crimson Desert.
This, fortunately, can be started right after you beat “Howling Hill” (which used to be Chapter 3 before the Enhanced update). Once you’ve completed Luke’s request and expanded your Howling Hill camp via its Dispatch mission, a new quest called A Wider World pops up.
This will tutorialize you on how to go about exploring the ocean with Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown DLC. The process involves building a ship through its own construction Dispatch mission, same as how you can build a trading wagon in Crimson Desert.
A previously inaccessible area between the titular Crimson Desert and Pailune is also now somewhat accessible, but a permanent deadly storm rages on. This is likely related to one of the new quests. We will update this article as we discover more on this.
