“I would look at other options” – Deep Dasgupta’s huge statement on India’s senior player after NZ vs IND 2026 T20Is

Deep Dasgupta stated that he would consider other options before giving Bhuvneshwar Kumar another opportunity in India’s T20I team. The veteran pacer made his comeback to international cricket after nearly four years, but had an underwhelming series against New Zealand.

The 36-year-old picked up just one wicket across four matches and finished with an economy rate of 11.25. The former cricketer opined that Bhuvneshwar cannot be judged on these performances, considering almost all bowlers proved expensive in the series.

However, he stated that India should only persist with Bhuvneshwar if they don’t have any younger options ready. The cricketer-turned-commentator said in his latest YouTube video:

“It is unfair because everyone was scoring 230 so easily. Every bowler was giving 10-11 runs per over there. It would be very unfair to say Bhuvi did not do well, because no bowler did well. I was very happy for Bhuvneshwar when he was picked, but that also tells me: where is the next generation?

“Bhuvi has served very well. He is such an underrated performer. We sometimes forget his contribution. But I think it is time to look at younger options, and if you don’t have those options ready, obviously Bhuvi comes in. I would look at other options before going back to Bhuvi.”

Bhuvneshwar was left out of the playing XI after the first three T20Is of the five-match series. He returned for the fifth fixture, where he recorded figures of 0/41 in four overs. The Men in Blue sealed the series victory by winning the first three matches. New Zealand had something to cherish as they claimed consecutive wins to end the series on a positive note.

“After a while, it becomes a little boring to see just fours and sixes” – Deep Dasgupta on India’s T20I series against New Zealand

Deep Dasgupta pointed out how the India-New Zealand series featured several high-scoring games. He suggested that it becomes boring to just see boundaries instead of an even contest between bat and ball.

He reckoned that India’s inexperienced bowling unit will be tested in the five-match ODI series against the Black Caps as well. Dasgupta added in the same video:

“The main problem for me is that scores of 230-240 have looked easy in the last two series. That is something that we need to look at. After a while, it becomes a little boring to see just fours and sixes. That’s the only thing, and I feel for the bowlers, to be fair. Also, India don’t have much experience in their bowling unit, and the same challenge will be there in the ODIs as well.”

The first ODI of the series will be played at Eden Park, Auckland, on Wednesday, November 4.
