“im dumb and thought it was funny”: Lacy responds to backlash for claiming he paid $12,000 at a restaurant in Japan

Twitch streamer Nick “Lacy” has responded to the backlash after he claimed to have paid $12,000 at a restaurant in Japan, saying that he’s “dumb and thought it was funny.” For context, during a livestream on October 28, 2026, Lacy expressed his displeasure with his fans for ordering $12,000 worth of food at a restaurant he visited while livestreaming from Japan.

The 23-year-old’s claims went viral, with users on the r/LivestreamFail subreddit claiming Lacy did not pay $12,000 and was clip-farming by making such statements.

“He’s clip farming it’s all he does. They asked him multiple times if the orders were his and he said no and they never made the food. They gave him the receipt and told him to pick out what he ordered because the system already included it in his bill. So he just paid for what he ordered, this 12k stuff is bull****.” Reddit user Apart-Volume9340 wrote.

“Lies. Those restaurants would not do that. And 1.5m JPY of food would not just be 15 plates. The restaurants would not have that much food. If you were scammed at a bar at Kabukicho, it would be more believable. They would charge you a bottle of Moet for 100,000 for example, as opposed to 30,000.” Reddit user valcatrina remarked.

“This is a straight up lie.” Reddit user Nakta1111 posted.

On October 29, 2026, Lacy addressed the controversy on X, saying that he was “trolling about” having to pay $12,000. TheCoreBoys-affiliated personality also stated that he “only had to pay for the extra food that was already prepared,” not the entire bill.

While claiming that he “doesn’t care about the hate at all,” Lacy stated that he contacted the restaurant “to make things right” and apologized:

“Where I went wrong was not correcting the story once I found out. I never expected it to go so viral, and im dumb and thought it was funny. I don’t care about the hate at all, twitter pages have an agenda and this fits it. But what i do care about is how i didn’t realize it could negatively effect the restaurant and that’s on me and i apologize. I never had bad intentions or intended for the restaurant to receive any hate. None of this was their fault, it was the people who sent the orders in and mine. I reached out to them to make things right and I do apologize for not clearing things up sooner.

Lacy claims he “genuinely thought” he had to pay $12,000, says he was “frustrated”

In the same X post mentioned above, Lacy claimed that he “genuinely thought” he had to pay a $12,000 bill at a restaurant in Japan “due to the language barrier.” The Twitch streamer also stated that he was “frustrated” after believing that he “owed $12,000”:

“I wanna clear up the restaurant situation in Japan. Due to the language barrier, I genuinely thought I was responsible for a $12,000 bill initially. I told the restaurant I’d cover it, asked them to give the extra food to families, and left my assistant to handle everything because my stream was cut and i wanted to get back. When I got back on stream, I was frustrated and thinking I owed $12,000, I started talking and trolling about it on stream like an idiot. After, i found out I only had to pay for the extra food that was already prepared not the entire bill.”

Lacy made headlines on October 16, 2026, when he responded to backlash for playing Hood Warfare 2 on livestream.
