Following a run to the quarterfinals of the Japan Open, Tagger made a strong start to her campaign at the WTA 250 event in Guangzhou, defeating Venus Williams 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. The Austrian then claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Magda Linette and secured a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 triumph over Shi Han to book a spot in the semifinals.

Tagger is aiming to win the second WTA Tour title of her career at the tournament after making a career breakthrough with her Prague Open triumph earlier this year. She also clinched an ITF W100 title in Fujairah this season and reached the final of the WTA 125 event in Mumbai.

Quevedo also won her maiden tour-level title this season, emerging victorious at the SP Open just weeks ago. The 20-year-old then suffered a first-round exit at the Japan Open before commencing her Guangzhou Open run with a gritty 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-4 win over Sofia Kenin.

Subsequently, Quevedo triumphed over Anna Bondar and Jil Teichmann in straight sets to advance to the semifinals.

Lilli Tagger vs Kaitlin Quevedo prediction

Although Quevedo is in excellent form, having won eight of her last nine matches, Tagger is expected to triumph in their semifinal clash at the Guangzhou Open.

Both players have produced stellar campaigns at the WTA 250 event, losing just one set apiece. However, Tagger has produced a slightly better performance in her service games, facing just 10 break points and saving five of them, while Quevedo has faced 32 break points across her three matches and saved 25.

The Spaniard has also had to fight harder for her wins, spending six hours and 26 minutes on the court, compared to Tagger’s four hours and 57 minutes.

Quevedo has proven herself to be a formidable opponent during her run in Guangzhou and will likely put pressure on Tagger, but the Austrian should still come away with the win and advance to the final.

Pick: Tagger to win in three sets.

Lilli Tagger vs Kaitlin Quevedo betting tips
