A man has been charged with the murder of a GP who was found dead at her home.

The man was arrested after the body of 45-year-old Dr Hannah Terry, also known as Hannah Cain, was found at a property in Fern Hill, Dersingham, Norfolk, on Sunday.

Norfolk Police said 45-year old Mark Cain, of Fern Hill, Dersingham, has been charged with her murder.

He has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

A notice on the website of Grimston Medical Centre, where Dr Terry is listed as a member of the NHS practice team, said it was “temporarily closed due to extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team”.

Tributes have been left outside the centre, including a teddy bear and flowers on a bench. A card from two patients reads: “Dear Dr Hannah Terry. We are so shocked and saddened to hear such tragic news.”

The Norfolk and Waveney Local Medical Committee, which represents NHS GPs, has also paid its respects.

A spokesperson said: “We are deeply saddened by the news of Dr Terry’s death. She was a wonderful GP who was dedicated to providing excellent care for her patients.”

Michael Devaney, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute Mark Cain for the murder of Hannah Cain following a police investigation into an incident at her home in Dersingham.

“We have worked carefully with Norfolk Police during their investigation.

“Our thoughts remain with the family of Hannah Cain at this time.”

Police said her family had asked for privacy and were being supported by specialist officers.

Dr Pallavi Devulapalli, a GP, said she was devastated when she found out her friend and former colleague had died.

She said the pair used to work together at The Hollies Surgery in Downham Market, Norfolk.

Devulapalli, who is also an independent councillor, said she “was such an easy person to work with”.

“She was universally liked, she was a good GP, someone sensible who you could trust,” said Devulapalli.

“I never worried about the patients she looked after – just the sort of person you want to work with,” she added.

Charis-Mai Ellis, 25, paid tribute and said Terry had been her family GP.

“She had the time for you and so much empathy and understanding. You could take your time with her and she wouldn’t rush,” she said.

“It is honestly just heartbreaking.”

According to the website of a business she ran, called Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, Dr Terry had been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years and a GP for eight.

The doctor described herself as a “caring and professional doctor” who continued her work as a GP alongside her cosmetics business.
