Sitting in 17th place in the Premier League, Manchester United are a team under pressure right now. They face Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday and could really do with a positive result.

- While Manchester United have been on poor form recently, they do have a tendency to pull out some special performances at home against Aston Villa. They’ve beaten Villa in their last five matches against them at Old Trafford, perhaps most notably coming from two goals down to win 3-2 on Boxing Day in 2023.
- Manchester United boss Michael Carrick earned some valuable breathing room in the UEFA Champions League this week, as his side came from two goals down to beat Roma 3-2 in a wild match. Remarkably, the win was the Red Devils‘ first since they beat Sabah on September 10th.
- In the Premier League, however, United’s form has remained woeful. Since they picked up their first win of the campaign by beating Ipswich on August 30th, they have taken just four points from a possible 21, drawing four matches and losing three.
- Aston Villa were well beaten in their own UEFA Champions League match this week, falling to Barcelona 3-0 in the Camp Nou. Usually, a loss to Barcelona wouldn’t be anything to worry about, but Villa have now failed to win any of their last three games, after losing to Bournemouth in the EFL Cup and then drawing with Fulham last weekend.
- Villa have been on strong Premier League form, though. Unai Emery’s team are unbeaten in their last five league fixtures, and have claimed big wins over Tottenham, Newcastle and Manchester City to begin to climb the table.
Manchester United vs Aston Villa Prediction
Manchester United will be buoyed coming into this game, both by their win over Roma and also by Aston Villa’s poor record at Old Trafford.
However, fans of the Red Devils ought to be wary of looking too much into their midweek win. Aston Villa will provide far tougher opposition than Roma did, and in Nicolas Jackson – who has scored seven goals in his last eight for Villa – they have a lethal striker in excellent form.
Add in United’s penchant for being overrun in midfield, particularly now Carlos Baleba has suffered an injury, and Michael Carrick’s side could be in trouble again here.
